Is she peeing for a reason?

Kitty Cat Issues

I honestly dont know what to do ....... We have had Ruth for 4 years and suddenly she is peeing in the hallway and the corner of the kitchen AND much to our Horror she also occasionally pees on the counter next to the coffee pot.... EEEEEEWWW freekin gross out. My husband is ready to drop kick her to the pound but I cant do it. We have an older male cat who is also fixed his name is ollie. We love our animals but keep a clean house free of stink and fur so this is really yucky.

He doesn't seem to have this issue...It has been pin pointed to Ruthie. There are many many cats in our neighborhood now over the last year but my cats are indoor cats. We also have a doggy , Mickey and he is fixed too.

Anyway its like Ruthie is the local Graffiti Artist of the house. Thank Goodness we have wooden floors but still it is sooooo gross. She even poops occasionally in the hallway. The only saving grace there is that Consistancy of her Duky is that of little dry tirdlets, *relief*. But still I never catch her in the act. Although I have taken to realise that when she starts ripping around the house meowing and playing with her toys and hollering down the hallway -shortly there after she does her tagging!!! we have two large cat boxes in the Garage like always, no hoods. Keep them cleaned out. I have used the expensive spray to help detour behavior but to no avail. There have been no major changes in our house hold and this has been going on for at least 5 months. AAAHHHHGG don't know what to do...I guess I will try new cat boxes-no hoods I hear they don't care for them much...

Bummer, have you brought in a piece of furniture that someone else owned maybe?

thats weird. maybe you could call your local pet store and see if they have any tips or advice? I hope she quits soon...it would be a shame to give her away. best of luck

I have a female cat and she did this when she younger, my vet said that even though they are fixed that cats could still experience being in "heat" I spent more time with the cat at this time and she just stopped, but before that she tagged my pillows on my sofa, one or two of my really nice shirts and my hubby and me while we were sleeping! I don't think there is a topper on that trust me LOL I would bring the little restless one to the vet, I mean 5 months is a long time something may be up, since it is a male and they tend to be a bit more terrotorial maybe he is marking his territory because they're are many cats outside, so kitty is probably saying this is my house and my humans back off. Try moving the cat liter........Tell hubby to be patient. My hubby felt the same way but I made him realize that I can't just drop him off when he is being "bad" LOL so kitty stayed :)I think you need a proffessional opinion from a vet, Good Luck!!!!! Hi there,

We had that problem with our cat some time ago and didn't know what it was. it was driving us insane! We had a litter box with a "hood" on it and once I figured out to remove the hood and got him a new litter box, the problem was solved. Maybe because he's getting older and had trouble getting into his litter box. That was our problem. The other issue could be a bladder infection or something like that, so you might get your sweetie check out. Good luck!! :) Silke

She could have a UTI or crystallization happening in her kidneys. Either that or she could be becoming incontinent or perhaps she smells the scent of another animal on the floor from your or a visitors shoes? Just possible ideas....I'm not a specialist in this field.

Our cat Ebony, who we lost last year had a problem with suddenly urinating, so we took her to the vets and it was a build up of crystals in the bladder, apparently quite common in female cats. Unfortunately Ebonys progressed and she needed surgury, and eventually it became a tumour. But it can be sucessfully sorted with medication and diet. Hope this help :)

ok so this is what I did. Had my daughter hose down the cat boxes and wipe them out. I did not use any cleaners because I did not want to create a scent they did not like. So they are now filled with fresh clumping sand and a new thing I got that is like a pellet with an herb like scent to it, I mixed it in. When I got home I gently put her in it and she kinda liked it sniffed a bit and pee pee!! Hopefully she will return regularly. I also got some calming spray because she is a little bit of a nervious cat. And some calming kitty treats she ate the treats after she went pee now she is running around the house like a bat out of hell playing with her toys... Dont know how calming those treats are but hopefully she wont pee anyplace else now....

we had cats at one point and one had a urinary tract infection. a quick trip to the vet can take care of that.

Huh. That's really odd that it's just suddenly happening. I was going to suggest maybe it's a UTI, but if it's been going on for 5 months, maybe not.

My cat pees on our clothes if they're left on the floor just because he's a butthead. I've dealt with his issue for 10 years so, I dunno.

(Finally coming by to say hello and thanks for following me. =))

Both my sister and my daughter have cats who had this problem. But WAIT! Neither of these women live near each other but both discovered by taking their cats to the vet that the cats had medical problems that could be cleared up with medicine. Both of these cats are doing fine now, years after the episodes. (I'm sorry but I don't know the technical terms for the problem but I can find out if you'd like to email me: cjohnson@umich.edu.)

(Also, for anyone interested, I'm having a GIVEAWAY and all are invited to participate!)

yep, medical issues are generally the cause of changes in urination ... i've had cats this happened with and it was always the crystals ... and it always felt to me like they were asking for my help by peeing where i would be sure to notice (please don't be mad at the cat!) ... if it's crystals causing an infection, antibiotics will have it cleared up in a few days ...

Hmmmm...interesting. I had a male cat once whom went to the bathroom whenever my EX and I had a fight (usually on his stuff...snicker) or when we'd left a mess on the floor, like clothes and whatnot. I read your update, and it looks like maybe it's working? Also, there is a thing called Bach Remedies, which is a flower essence, and you mentioned her being nervous? We use Rescue Remedy for ourselves and you can actually drop a bit on your finger and rub in in the inside of your cat's ears...I've used that and Walnut (for stress due to any changes) and it works great!

Poor you! I have no ideas to help you stop this--I don't have pets.

But boy! your dog is adorable!!

I would give her some extra attention and TenderLovingCare and also go to the vet, if only to rule out any possible medical problem.
They usually try to tell you something with this kind of behaviour. Either they are alone too much or something has changed in the household or they have a health issue.

One of our cats has a pee problem and there is an area in one bathroom both cats would love to mark if given the chance. I believe it is about scents- that only they can smell. I haven't given up yet, but one room is so marked that using pet solution seems to be an overwhelming project. But that product should work perfectly for removing the lingering scent that only "They" can smell. Good luck!

WoW! your cat as an uncanny resemblance to Bijou..
To bad about the peeing incident.
How old is she?
Did you take her to the vet?
She could have a kidney problem.
Hope everything will be ok
