Giveaway!!!!

Hello everyone, thank you so much for the read or follow I so appreciate you!!!
I would like to host a giveaway and the prize is a hand made up cycled barrette. There is a link at the right (just click on barrette photo) as well that will take you to my artfire shop if you want to see more photo's of these little doo dads.
So I used to work part time at a craft store of which I will not name names, and every night they would sweep up, well I used to go around and pick up fallen items from the floor. I just didn't see the sense in putting them into a landfill so I collected flowers and beads and such. I took them home and took everything apart then re-designed my style. I would like to give a few of these away. The number of winners will just determine the number of comments or follows we have here. I hope to have this giveaway for at least two weeks running. So I will as a question and you all this question;
" what are you doing to reduce your carbon footprint, while still creating art?"
Thanks so much and good luck!!!
Please respond to the question in your comment.. And for an additional chance to win please follow me then come back and comment to let me know you did so.. Giveaway winners will be posted Monday May 4th. Thank you!
Be sure to tell those around you how much you love them...

I try to reduce my carbon foot print in many ways but even the simple things help. So I create art when there in natural light in my art room and sometimes just take things to the kitchen where the best natural light is in my house :)

Instead of using paper towels to wipe my brushes I use an old hand towel. I haven't bought paper towels in over a year!

I started using plastic knifes in the studio, instead of popscicle sticks. I can wash the plastic when I wash my brushes. The wood went in the trash... not anymore! ~PJ

I use recycled wood to create my art which i buy from Habitat for Humanity. Also, I became a vegetarian this year. All my clothing has always come from 2nd hand stores. Now i guess thats the 'in' thing to do. I do eat eggs & dairy, found fresh eggs at a farmers market locally. I'm gonna put up a clothesline and at least dry my linens in the fresh air.

hey there, what a lovely blog (i'm trying to figure out how to follow you ... you'd think i would have figured all this out by now)

... and what a great question

i reduce my carbon footprint by being vegan ... just doing that, i cut about 25 times the energy and resources i use overall (meaning, i cut it by about 2500%) ...

and can i just say, yay loralai!

if you're really interested in cutting down your carbon footprint in that way, see these websites (or feel free to ask me anything)...

http://www.ecostreet.com/blog/sustainable-lifestyle/2007/09/11/7-big-ways-to-reduce-your-carbon-footprint/

http://openthefuture.com/2006/12/the_footprint_of_a_cheeseburge.html

http://www.vegweb.com

http://www.goveg.com

so, in addition to be vegan and pestering everyone else to be vegan ... i buy mostly fresh produce, which leaves me with less than a 1/4 bad a garbage every week ... i compost my veggie peelings and everything else that can be composted (including paper) ... i limit packaged food, for my health but it also reduces garbage ... i try to always stop and think if i can use something that can be composted before i buy something that lasts forever (like plastic and styrofoam, etc) ... nearly, always, i can easily use something else (made of glass or paper)

other than that, my personal style of painting (hmm, maybe just my personal style of living) is that i have maybe 10 colors of acrylic paints i work with and i that's all i buy ... i don't have a massive stash ... i just have the small collection of paints i use every day ... and i use very few brushes, probably 5 or 6 ... i ship in recycled boxes ... and have my prints made just a few at a time ... and i love used clothing ... i also do a lot of trades, like stuff i may want in exchange for prints ...

thing is, none of these things have been a "sacrifice" at all ... my life is actually SO much better in every way ...

was that too much? lol, well, you asked!

btw, i'd love to have a barrette :)

xoxo

As an artist I am using a lot of found objects in my art and I like to use pretty papers and foils in my work as well. It helps me to look at the world defirently. I see art objects and supplies everywhere.

Wonderful give-away!

I do a lot, really. :) But one of my most treasured crafty pastimes is creating Spirit Cords and I have a large bag of cotton embroidery floss and a (newly acquired) large bag of yarns ... both of which were rescued from landfill potential! There's more ... but I won't bore you!

Love the earth!

Hi, I saw your post on SITS and wanted to stop by and say hello. What a great blog you have, and I love your handmade pretties!

I am trying to reduce our carbon footprint by using more of what I have around the house to make my cards, instead of rushing out to buy stuff on a whim. Also I donate craft things we don't use to my sons' school and their old preschool.

Would love to take part in your giveaway - your barettes are fab!

First I want to thank you for stopping by my place and leaving such a lovely comment. How did you find Landanna?

What do I do?
- Shop in secondhand stores
- Shop at local secondhand markets
- Bicycle with the boys to school everyday
- Bicycle too the shops
This not because we don't have a car because we do.
- Separate paper and glass for recycling.
- Dry all the laundry outside in spring, summer, fall and sometimes in the winter when I think I can get it dry.
- Use a teacozy
- Use energy saving lamps
- Don't use a dishwasher

There is probably more but I can't think of it now. These things are so normal and everyday that I have to think how other people do it.

Have a great weekend and please let me know how you found my place. That fascinates me always a lot.

See you.
Elizabeth

Give aways are fun. Thank you so much for being one of my creative followers.
I do my part for the environment by using cereal type boxes as a painting base, I use alot of junk mail in my art (or it gets shredded and put in the garden), I used old books as journals, I use most of my scraps in my art...
I am always on the look out for other ways to reduce, reuse, recycle/upcycle.

Apple said...

I use all my junk mail and other scrap paper from work in my art journals. I also keep anything plastic like chip bags or ziplocs and use them as paint palletes. Thank you for following me.

Mandala Michelle said...

Say your email though ning. I'm actually doing a giveaway this week too, its a handmade journal using all my scraps and some recycled paper. I've just opened a shop on shophandmade and my goal is to have every item be repurposed or recycled in some manner.

Annabelle said...

I recycle what I can but even though I do a lot I could do 200% more so imagine the possiblities if everyone would do their part?
Thnaks for the invite and I am a follower of your blog but very ooak individual...hehe!

What a great idea, cleaning up and repurposing the 'trash'!!
I am in the process of videoing my little obsession... picking up trash in the alley to add as found objects to clay sculpture... it should be on my site in a week or so!
thanks for your contributions to cleaning up the planet and making it pretty with new-found purpose ART!

How sweet of you to do a giveaway! Ah, yes, reducing our carbon footprint - something on all of our minds these days. Well, my husband and I always use recycled items in our art; old wood, old nails, cheap stuff from garage sales, you name it. He metal detects too so he is always finding good rusty stuff for me.

We also went vegan and we try to bike to as many places as we can close to home. And we get all our produce from a local farmer. We try to limit harsh chemicals when we clean and recycle as much as possible.

I'm sure there is a ton more we could be doing and I look forward to following this post so I can read all the comments.

Your new assemblages are awesome! I can't wait to see more of them.

thank you for stopping by. I think it's wonderful that you saved up all the swept up bits and have turned them into wonderful wearable art. :)

I try to reuse as much as possible - when I receive something in padded envelopes, I reuse the envelope & include a note asking the recipient to reuse it, too; use dedicated towels while crafting and not paper towels; make sure lights are off in all rooms that I am not in ... there's more, but I believe every effort makes a difference and counts.

I am now a follower of yours!! I couldn't find it the first time. I just didn't look far enough down. A few other things on demand hot water heater, front loading washer, but those aren't directly related to my art. I have started keeping my dryer lint (much to the amazement of my family) to make clay with it. I have also read that it can be used to look like needle felting.

Hi,
My decision to use cloth diapers for my baby boy is probably my best environmental contribution. We also buy local when we can, and my husband rides a bike to work instead of a car.

Hey Brittany, thank you so much for the invite to your blog, I love it. We are neighbors.
I am trying to use all of the products I have bought over the last 20 years or give them to artists who want to use them instead of buying more.
I would love a chance to have that barrette, I just love skulls.
Thanks again,
Marie

I have given myself the challenge to make art only using the materials I have now or recycled materials or materials found in thrift stores, etc. I have used old rags as opposed to paper towels for years. I save and reuse the envelopes sent to me by companies for payment since I usually pay my bills online.

Thanks for visiting my blog, your's is awesome!!! I'm gonna add yours to my blog today. I reduce my carbin footprint by using old washcloths instead of paper towels when creating art..when I use baby wipes to create a piece of art I let them dry then use them on my ATCs..I always go for 2nd hand in many things even clothes. We grow most of our veggies and herbs...and the list goes on and on...*smile*

Blessings, Bevie

I use a lot of recycled materials in my art especially metals. I also make quite a bit of clothing from existing clothes that I find and then rework. And assemblage! We are also raising our own chickens and growing veggies this year.

Jaime Lyerly said...

Wow, you are a popular gal!

My way of reducing the carbon foot print is also using found objects and buying locally. I could definitely make more of an effort to use and reuse everything I make. At least art papers get a new life embedded into encaustic sculptures.

Using recycled bits and pieces in art work, or stashing them for future use. I never throw away a cereal box - a great base to work on for little art pieces.

As a quilter I save my scraps & use them in more projects. I made 5 large bed size quilts the past year totally from scraps & stash. Even little 1.5" squares get used & tiny triangles.Re-use & use up. I make left overs into a whole new meal too! Use only green bags no plastic. Drive only when necessary!

Um - I don't think I'm doing anything in the way of art - let alone reducing my carbon footprint... Does continuing to use play doh after it falls on the floor and gathers debris count?
